Project Overview
Broomloan Road BESS, located at 322 Broomloan Rd, Glasgow G51 2JQ, is a large-scale project with a 50MW capacity and 100MWh of storage, sufficient to power 100,000 homes. Scheduled to energise in mid-2026, the project will play a critical role in meeting the city’s growing energy demand. Its city-centre location near Govan Substation makes it particularly valuable, helping to relieve stress on the local grid during peak times.
PRE APPLICATION
The development of the Broomloan Road project began in late 2023.
This project will deliver 100MWh of energy storage, enough to power 100,000 homes, and is set to be operational by mid-2026.
The site, located close to Govan Substation, was chosen for its ability to support Glasgow’s increasing demand for energy. However, securing a suitable plot of land in the congested city centre posed early challenges, particularly given its proximity to Ibrox Stadium. The site was previously used for storing shipping containers.
